- Water heater
Life in college is fun, but do not be fooled into thinking that it will be a walk in the park. The first semester is especially difficult as you try to adjust to life away from home. When leaving your parent’s home I suggest that you only pack the necessary items. Carrying a fancy water heater could be a sure way of having it stolen during your first week. Hot water is a precious commodity, so do not be surprised if there are many who are green with envy. Moreover, your roommates or other members of your dormitory may just be waiting for the chance to get away with the all important appliance. If you value hot water, keep a watchful eye on your water heater.
- Sneakers
A comfortable pair of shoes is another item that might just go missing. Shoes go missing very often within the dormitories in campus. It may be because shoes are useful for all facets of life while in college. For men, the right shoe can get the right woman’s attention and for the athletes, the right shoe can mean the difference between your scoring and getting recognized or being a member of the benchwarmers.
- Underwear
This may sound strange, but I have been told by a couple of people that they had their underwear go missing after hanging it on the line. Now, this is a true indication of how desperate people must be. As you begin college, it soon becomes apparent that there are people from different backgrounds with values. Therefore, one’s economic status may not match that of thy neighbor. There is a conflict that rages on within many on how to fulfill one’s desires continues and many look to stealing to make it all possible.
- Food items
Stealing food is probably menial, but for a hungry student this has been known to cause fights or even breakup roommates. Whether it is the last slice of bread or last night’s ugali, a fight can easily brew over food. The key to avoiding these arguments is to make terms clear amongst roommates. This will save you a lot of drama in the long run and ensure your stay with them remains pleasant.
- Electronics
Electronics are easily stolen wherever you may be. It could be more prevalent in some universities than in others but essentially, laptops; cell phones and even chargers are easily stolen. The art of taking someone else’s prized possession is mastered by many so be ware. If you hope to avoid losing you precious computer with all your class notes and term papers, then I advise you to never leave it unattended.
