5 Oscar nominated films worth watching this weekend

The Oscar list is out, but which movies are worth watching?

Though every movie was rightly nominated, there are a few movies that definitely a must watch. Here is a list of 5 movies that have some intriguing storylines and entertaining relationships that unfold on camera.

1.Green Book

A movie about a complex yet relatable relationship between a music genius and his driver is filled with interesting twists and turns. “Green Book” takes on matters of racism, class, and love with an unprecedented take on black excellence in Marshala Ali’s character. The growth of the characters is intriguing and definitely worth watching.

2. A Star Is Born

Though many might think this movie has been overhyped, in fact, it’s delicate take on self-love, personal growth, and trust. Peppered with great music, we see Brandley Cooper grow into his own as a director as Lady Gaga blossoms as the lead actress in the character “Ally.” Love meets passion as Gaga’s character “Ally” takes the stage as the best version of herself.

3. Bohemian Rhapsody

Based on the rock n roll life of Queens, the Oscar-nominated “Bohemian Rhapsody” is an offering of what made the Brit band great. With all the juicy bits that happened behind the scenes, the movie captures the convoluted relationships between the band members and their legion of fans.

4. If Beale Street Could Talk

The adaptation of James Baldwin’s book, the movie “If Beale Street Could Talk” is a story based on the evolution of a Harlem couple’s love story. The emotional coming off age story is aided by encouraging dialogue, making for a memorable storyline. If you enjoy a good love story, this movie is a great watch.

5.Vice

Based on the relationship between Pres. George Bush and Dick Cheney, the movie is an exposition on the complicated role of Dick Cheney within the American government during his time as Vice President.  Cristian Bale and Amy Adams play the lead characters in the refreshing take on how the world perceives the inner working of the Oval Office.
