5 love songs to listen to and set the mood this Valentine’s Day

Valentines is finally here and if your bae is not at the Men’s Conference, then you could cuddle up to some great local tunes.

If you love RnB or some Afrofusion, here is a selection of songs that you wind down to with the love in your life.

1.Nyashinski – Malaika

An easy listen with a great message, the track “Malaika” is the perfect track to set the mood. Produced by Cedric “Cedo” Kadenyi, the track is the jam to profess your love and appreciate your best moments as a couple.

2. Sauti Sol – Lazizi

The first single from Sauti Sol’s debut album “Mwanzo,” the track  “Lazizi” has been a winner. Released on YouTube in 2009, is a track from the perspective of a young man in the friend zone. If you enjoy a laugh and a bit of flirting, this track is a great listen. Since their first album “Mwanzo,” the foursome has since grown their brand touring across the globe. Experimenting with their sound, their latest album “Afrikan Sauce” also features a few upbeat love jams.

3. Otile Brown- Crush

A 2019 release, this track by ladies man Otile Brown has remained on the trending list since it was released on February 4th.  Bad man Shivo has continued to release hit after hit, and if you enjoy his unique sound, and clever lyrics, this track is a sure winner to sing to a loved one. Currently, on tour in Australia, this “Kenyan Girls” crooner is serenading Australian women this Valentines.

4. Mbosso – Tamu

The track “Tamu” is a love poem by famed Bongo musician Mbosso. Known for his lyricism, the track contains playful lyrics and combines creative visuals to create the perfect love song. They say Swahili is one of the most romantic African languages, and I guess Mbosso knows why. As one of the most recent additions to the Wasafi Records crew, he has already garnered more than 10 Million views on Youtube, with releases such as “Hodari” and “Nadekezwa.”

5. Karun ft. Ukweli – Roses

The definition of a slow jam, Karun’s solo artist debut “Roses” is a track that packs a punch. With sultry vocals and simple lyrics, the beat creates the perfect ambiance for love to flourish. A fusion of genres, the track’s distinct beats carries the overall sound of this November 2018 release. If you are up for a slow wind, this is the perfect track for that.
