It’s not easy to live a happy life, at the same time, you can’t be happy if you don’t know what makes you unhappy. You might have lived unhappy life for a long time, that you are used to it. You no longer know how it feels to be happy. Having said that, here are some of the reasons that cause unhappiness:

1) Low Self Esteem
Not being confident in yourself is low self-esteem. People with low self-esteem spend most of their time trying to be someone they are not, they spend a lot of time alone, they overthink, they just can’t believe they are good enough and they can be happy.

2)A Unfulfilling Job
Go to school, get good grades, go to a good college, struggle to get a distinction, and boom gets a job. This cycle is common. You might think getting your dream job is all you needed, but NO. If the job is not your passion it is the ‘wrong’ job for you. It is important that one enjoys the feeling of accomplishment, to truly find happiness in their work. Sometimes one may just have to think how different tasks can be switched up to better us your talents and capabilities.

3)Toxic Relationships
You might have been in an abusive relationship for so long that you no longer see any good in yourself. Crippled by fear of leaving your partner could be the one thing holding you back from happiness. Sometimes, being self-aware and little selfish can be the one defining factor that leads you to happiness.

4) Holding On To The Past
Pasts have a way of affecting the future, but as they say, do not let your past control your future. You might be holding on that mistake you made, that one decision that has had an adverse consequence on your life. It is time to let go and learn to be happy.

One of the main characteristics that separate the happy and the unhappy tribe is that the happy tribe have the ability to see life in a totally positive perspective and they are in control of their lives. You can’t cure a disease without knowing its cause. Since you have admitted or acknowledged the cause of your unhappiness, it is the first step to emotional healing.

Remember happiness is not a goal, it is a by-product.
