4 Cooling foods to beat the heat and keep your skin glowing

As the weather heats up across the country, keeping cool is the name of the game as it is a multi-faceted challenge. It’s all about beating the heat.

On hot, humid days, it’s difficult to avoid the heat and we find ourselves desperately reaching for things that keep us cool. Reaching out for a frosty bowl of ice-cream or a cool beverage might seem like a great way to cool off but they are not exactly the healthiest options as they can be loaded with tons of sugar. Instead of opting for soft serve, try one of these naturally cooling foods to your diet for some sweet, healthy relief.

1.Watermelon

There’s nothing better than biting into a big, juicy slab of watermelon to alleviate the discomfort of a hot day. This ruby-red fruit contains a high amount of water content helping to deliver a burst of hydration to replenish the fluid that your body loses on a scorching day. Watermelons are supremely delicious making a lovely snack all by itself or can be added to fruit salads or smoothies.

2.Cucumber

Being ‘Cool as a Cucumber’ might actually have some weight to it. Coming from the same family as watermelons, cucumbers also contain a high amount of water content. It’s a joy to nosh on cucumber slices, or add it to salads, include it in your green smoothie and rub the leftovers on your skin for a soothing touch on heat irritated areas.

3.Pineapples

Doesn’t the mere mention of pineapples remind you of Sponge bob square pants? Along with watermelon and cucumber, pineapple makes for a kick-ass smoothie booster. In fact, all of these ingredients are considered to be cooling, so blend away. This water-rich fruit helps you stay hydrated giving your skin that hydrated effect that we love to achieve on a hot day.

4.Green Leafy Vegetables

We all know that Popeye made himself super strong by eating spinach, but did you know that they act as cooling foods too? If you needed another reason to hail the kale and add more greens, then this superfood should be on your menu every day. Dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, and lettuce contain a high amount of water content and take the nutritional cake for healing and helping your body in these warmer climes. Greens are versatile and can be used in salads, detox juices, and smoothies.
