15th Annual Universities Education Exhibition Ends On A High Note

The 15th annual Universities Education Exhibition and Discourse(UEED) has been taking place at Catholic University of East Africa(CUEA) from 27th February 2017 and is expected to come to an end today, 3rd March 2017. The exhibition aims at showcasing Kenya’s higher education at its best.

The exhibition has been held annually for the last ten years. The platform has seen the growth of technologies such as M-Pesa which started off as a small project by a student. The Commission for University Education has been at the forefront of ensuring the event is successful, led by the chair Professor Chacha Nyaigotti Chacha.

Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i attended the exhibition this year. He gave a public lecture on the State of Higher Education in Kenya.

Over 70 universities have sent students with projects that, if adopted, will see changes in technology in Kenya. Various universities have been in attendance with Moi University sending 10 students who have projects ranging from money transfer to technologies targeting street vendors.

The event offers students the chance to network with other students committed to contributing positively through technology. There is also a possibility that innovative students can also get funding for their projects.

“This is my first time being here and I find this exhibition very helpful”, said Michael, a student who has a project that could change how mobile money in Kenya works. The exhibition that has been open to public encouraging students to be innovative, entrepreneurship and technology transfer in the digital era.

It is time students and young people grabbed opportunities that present themselves with positivity and make something good out of them.
