A student in his final year at Strathmore University managed to have his research paper accepted into the World Finance Conference to be held in New York from 29th to 31st of July 2016. Micheal Chuchu, a student from the School of Finance and Applied Economics, has the school’s support as they rally behind him celebrating his success.
Due to graduate in June 2016, Micheal is currently on internship at CIC Insurance Group. According to an article posted on the Strathmore University site,
“The paper investigates the existence and magnitude of volatility spillovers among equity sectors on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. It involves grouping the NSE equities into broad sectors, and using an econometric model to evaluate the spillover of return volatility between one sector and another.”
The prestige of having his paper accepted at such high academic levels is not lost on anyone. An astute student, Micheal has sat and passed 8 Core Technical exams from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom.
The research paper could help make more informed decisions while participating in the Nairobi Stock Exchange. Additionally, it could potentially inform portfolio risk management and diversification strategies and decisions in the Kenyan market.
