Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has formed an advisory team to assist in the rescue of Kisii University which is scheduled for closure.
The team includes former University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor George Magoha, Professor Crispus Kiamba, who is also a former University Vice Chancellor and Professor Patricia Mbote who is the dean of the Faculty Law of the University of Nairobi.
This is after 10 Kisii University campuses were listed for closure for not complying with Commission of University Education standards.
Other Universities whose campuses have been listed include Laikipia University and Kabarak University.
The Commission’s Chairman Profesor Henry Thairu has also asked the governing council to develop a plan that will see students from those campuses merged or transfered to credited campuses.
Additionally, the Kisii University has been given a twelve months extension on the closure notice to allow the university to mount a rescue plan of its campuses.
