10 Counties lead unprecedented KCSE cheating

MATIANGI-2015-RESULTS-487x249

More than 5,000 candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) examinations last year will not get their results, marking a 70 percent rise in cheating cases from 2014.

Six out of the 47 counties had more than 200 candidates caught in examination irregularities, with Makueni (382), Bomet (343) and Kisii (294) having the most number of candidates involved in cheating.

In spite of the high number of cheating cases, Education CS Dr. Matiang’I said the Government will not cancel entire school results.

Instead, he says they will set up a secretariat for the affected candidates and their families to receive answers.

Cheating students in Transzoia, Nyandarua, Nandi, Meru, Nairobi, Murang’a and Kilifi counties numbered over 100 in each county.

Only Isiolo County had no cases of exam cheating with 305 centres affected nationwide.

During last year’s examination, nearly 50 students, teachers, university students and police officers were arrested and 30 mobile phones confiscated from candidates.

Matiang’i has said he will be holding a meeting with his Interior Ministry counterpart Joseph Nkaissery and other stakeholders to find a lasting solution as directed by President Kenyatta.
