On 14th of February 2013, one billion women (and men who love them) across the globe will dance to one beat. If all goes according to plan, the one billion people dance will send a strong message against violence and rape of women. Organised by a movement calling itself ‘1 billion rising’, the dance will demand a ‘WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence.
In a video (below), 80 students have shown the world how the dance will be performed in a routine choreographed by dance icon Debbie Allen. The music video features Allen with the teen V-girls and singers bringing their radical RISING energy to locations across NYC.
Written and produced by legendary music dynamo Tena Clark, with music by Tena Clark and Tim Heintz, Break The Chain features an impressive cast of V-Girl activists and New York-based singers: Liz Byrne, Shelea Frazier, Ashley Juedy, Dana Kluczyk, Jenny Mollett, Jenna Brooke Scannelli, Tanyaradzwa Tawengwa, Naomi Walley, and Caitlin Witty.
Produced by Eve Ensler and V-Day, the video was directed and shot by South African filmmaker Tony Stroebel, who also co-directed and shot the ONE BILLION RISING short film.
