Gor, Azam friendly aborts

NAIROBI, Kenya, August 1- The rescheduling of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match between Gor Mahia and Tusker to Wednesday has aborted K’Ogalo plans to play a high profile friendly with Tanzania outfit, Azam FC.

The monied Tanzanian club has challenged the duopoly of Simba and Yanga and are in the process of a whirlwind tour of East Africa to face Zanzibar, Uganda and Rwanda.

Facing K’Ogalo on Wednesday would have been the highlight but the plans were scuttled by the deferral of the KPL match against that was initially set for Saturday.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia coach, Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, told Capital Sport that Tuesday would be a rest day for the side as they seek to go joint top with Rangers on 33 points by bottling the brewers at a televised match at the Nyayo National Stadium.

“We are ready for the game that will not be easy. Today (Tuesday) my players are resting as we wait for the Tusker test. We are taking matters game by game,” Otieno said.

The coach who also doubles up as the national team coach will name the Harambee Stars squad on Thursday.

Azam and Gor Mahia management had earlier reached an agreement for their friendly to take place in Nairobi. Azam would have been on their way for more matches in Uganda and Rwanda.

The Tanzania Vodacom Premier League starts on August 20 and Azam are gearing for the campaign by sharpening their skills against sides at the home in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Uganda and Rwanda.
