Who is Arsenal’s Bernice Kariuki and why is she trending?

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 30 – Bernice Kariuki is a name in the top trending lists in social media networks throughout Tuesday. So who is she, and why is the Kenyan-born chef trending?

Kariuki is a famed Kenyan-born culinary expert who was working as English Premier League side Arsenal’s private chef. On Monday, just a day after the North Londoners thumped Wolves 5-0 in the final day of the season, she announced that she was quitting Mikel Arteta’s side.

“A final day flourish. Finished the season with a bang! Simply the best!!! Arsenal… Arsenal… Arsenal. 2020/2023, the best special season ever. I hang my gloves as a very proud chef, it’s been an honour working for the best club in the whole world. I was truly humbled,” Kariuki posted on Facebook.

Kariuki had been working for Arsenal since 2021and became involved in the preparation of meals for the first team players at the London Colney training ground.

She managed the daily well-being and nutrition of the team before and after matches, as well as menus for the travelling team.

Before joining Arsenal, Kariuki worked at several high-end hotels in London.

In a past interview, Kariuki, born in Nairobi’s Jericho estate, said she landed the job after former skipper Pierre Emerick Aubameyang liked pilau she made at some Christmas party.

“I met Auba and asked him whether there were any vacancies at Arsenal. To my surprise, he said I could be his personal chef and I was like, “What?” and that’s where I got my job. He liked the pilau I did,” she said in a past interview.
