NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 1 – Tusker had slumped to a 2-0 scoreline against third tier side Rainbow FC in the second round of the MozzartBet FKF Cup, but a superb second half comeback saw the brewers score three goals, including an 89th minute winner to progress to the quarter finals.
Head coach Robert Matano has disclosed that a tough hair dryer treatment at halftime led to the comeback, and says he was delighted with the character of his players.
“I told them at half time that Tusker is a big club and only players who deserve to wear this badge will play. I told them I would not make changes at halftime and that the same players would fight to restore parity,” Matano said.
He added; “I told them they had to fight and it was their responsibility to win this game and this was their chance to prove they are worth playing for Tusker FC.”
The brewers scored through Stewart Omondi and Shaphan Oyugi to level scores before substitute Deric Otieno headed home in the 89th minute.
The National Division One side had gone into a 2-0 lead within the opening quarter of an hour through Edward Omondi and Salim Murunga.
