Stars new call up Anyembe: Choosing Kenya over Denmark wasn’t a struggle

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 22 – New Harambee Stars recruit Daniel Anyembe said it was not a struggle to choose Kenya over Denmark in his decision to switch international allegiance to the country of his father’s birth.

Anyembe has been born and raised in Denmark, to a Kenyan father and a Danish mother and has represented his country of birth at Youth level.

The 24-year old right back has disclosed that the Football Kenya Federation has been trying to lure him for a while.

“The Federation contacted me a few years ago but I ran into an injury. Now this year we started talking again and I spoke to the coach. He called me and informed me of the project and he told me he had decided to have me. When he called, I was not in doubt that I was ready to come play for Kenya,” Anyembe said, after his first training session with the team.

He added; “He (Coach Firat) didn’t need to convince me much. He said he had been watching my game and liked how I play and he told me when I come here, I should express myself and be the player that he things I am and that I have the quality, but I have to show it.”

Anyembe will compete with Tusker’s Daniel Sakari for the right back starting role while Coach Firat had also deployed midfielder Amos Nondi in that same position in some matches during his initial four-match stint.

The defender, who has played in Denmark all his career now hopes he can take the opportunity and be a regular for the Harambee Stars.

“When the opportunity came I was ready to take I and come here. Everyone is warm hearted and they have been very welcoming. I am happy to be training and playing with these guys,” Anyembe said.
