Afande Patrick: Title-seeking Police FC sign keeper Matasi from Tusker

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 15 – Title-chasing Kenya Police FC have signed Tusker FC goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, bolstering their squad in the bid to battle for a first ever FKF premier League crown.

Matasi played his last match for Tusker FC in their 1-0 victory over Posta Rangers on February 26 and has missed the last three matches as he was given time out to complete the transfer.

Police had been hot on the trail of Matasi at the start of the season, but the club refused to bulge, holding on to the keeper who had a year to run on his contract.

But now, with three months left before his contract ends, the two clubs have reached an amiable financial settlement for the 35 year old shot stopper who had 18 clean sheets last season.

“I have enjoyed my time at Tusker FC, through good and bad times. I am grateful to the team for their support and grateful for what they have done to me. It is life, and at times, we all need to move. I know that those remaining will continue with the work,” said Matasi.

He added; “I am looking forward to my time at Police. I know there will be competition for places and I will not walk straight into the starting team. Job (Ochieng) has been there and done some good work and I will need to fight for my position,” he added.

Matasi’s departure will be a big blow for Tusker as they look to retain their title and they will miss his leadership and talent.

For Police, it will be another big arrival and a statement of intent after they already secured the services of left back Aboud Omar and striker Derrick Otanga.
