NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – The highly anticipated friendly match between Kenya and Burundi is on the balance, with Burundi reportedly set to play Indonesia on the same day.
Indonesian press as well as the Indonesian Football Federation reported that their team would play Burundi, and a source within the Burundi Football Federation stated they would be headed to the Asian nation.
“So far, the possibilities of coming to Kenya are narrow, but we wait for a day or two we see what comes of it,” a source within the Burundi Federation told Capital Sport.
The friendly, which would have been Kenya’s first in almost 18 months, had been penciled for the 25th and 28th of this month at the Kasarani Stadium.
Head coach Engin Firat who had been handed a new contract after his initial ended, had already flown back to Kenya in anticipation for the friendly match which falls on the FIFA international window.
Kenya and Burundi would have been playing each other this month in qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, but Harambee Stars was omitted due to the then FIFA suspension.
