Atsu rescued from Turkey earthquake rubble, Ghana FA confirms

ACCRA, Ghana, Feb 7 – The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that ex international Christian Atsu has been rescued from the rubble of a building that collapsed after an earthquake hit Turkey.

Atsu, a former Chelsea and Newcastle winger was reported to have been trapped under the rubble of the building he was in alongside some members of his team, Hatayspor, just less than 24 hours after scoring the winning goal against Kasimpasa.

“Update: We’ve received some positive news that Christian Atsu has been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building and is receiving treatment. Let’s continue to pray for Christian🙏🏽,” the Ghana FA posted on Twitter.

Hatayspor Vice President Mustafa Özat has meanwhile been quoted as saying Atsu was pulled from the wreckage with injuries but sporting director Taner Salut is still yet to be found.
