NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 3 – The 12th edition of the annual #KOT5Aside football tournament will be staged in Mombasa this Saturday, the Coastal town hosting the tourney for the third time since inception.
This year’s edition, which will be staged at the Nyali Futsal Arena, and has attracted a total of 16 teams.
HoldersWeusi FC will be seeking to become the first team to successfully defend their title. Tournament referee Eric Ananda says he is pleased with the growth of the tournament so far and is looking forward to another stellar outing down at the Coast.
“KOT5Aside is always evolving and growing. Standards of the game have gone up with every edition. Mombasa has always been about pure football entertainment and competitiveness and we should see a better tournament with discipline and respect to the officials,” he said
Winners on the 12th Edition will receive Sh100,000 prize money courtesy of sponsors Odibets who have partnered the tournament since 2019.
Losing finalists will walk home with Sh60,000 while the third-place winners will earn Sh40,000.
Tournament Director Dennis Okonji says he expects a competitive tournament and further added everything is in place and they are ready to deliver another amazing tournament.
#KOT5Aside was founded in 2018 by Twitter personality Alex Muange (Sir Alexas) and it’s an initiative that brings together Kenya’s online community to enjoy football and networking.
Mombasa residents are also set to enjoy entertainment from Arrow Bwoy at Moonshine Hotel and Bar as part of thr tournament’s after party.
