“He reminds me of Yaya Toure” – Adebayor in high praise of Tusker skipper Mieno

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 20 – Former Togo national team captain Emmanuel Adebayor has reserved the highest of praise to Tusker FC skipper Humphrey Mieno, saying watching the midfielder reminds him of his former Manchester City teammate Yaya Toure.

Adebayor, who was in the country this week, watched the FKF Premier League match between Tusker FC and FC Talanta at the Ruaraka Complex where Mieno bossed the midfield and gave two assists.

“The captain of Tusker FC is a very, very good player. He reminds me of my time in Man City of a player like Yaya Toure. He knows when to play one touch, when to dribble, when to dive into the opponent. He is such a great player to watch and I heard he played for the national team and I am not surprised because he has the quality to be in the national team,” said Adebayor after the game.

He was also impressed by South Sudanese striker David Majak and was also pleased to see keeper Patrick Matasi still at his best, having first watched him at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

“I saw one player just as tall as me (Majak). I hear he plays for the South Sudan national team; very good player technically. Even with his tall size, it doesn’t reduce anything from his technical ability. I also saw the keeper who was in AFCON 2019. He is still there to assure his team,” said Adebayor.

Meanwhile, Adebayor believes that Kenya has what it takes to become a football stronghold one day, hoping the country can pick up from its prowess in athletics.

“You see Kenya when it comes to the Olympics and the Marathons, we see how big the country can be in the World. Looking at football, with all the support towards them, hopefully Kenya can be somewhere close to Senegal and Nigeria one day,” stated Togo’s all-time top goal scorer.
