NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 2 – Shujaa started off their Dubai Sevens campaign with a 19-19 draw against Hong Kong Champions Australia on Friday morning.
The Kenyan boys led 14-7 at halftime, but they couldn’t hold on for a morale boosting victory, with Maurice Longbottom dotting down a late try to split the points.
Herman Humwa, Billy Odhiambo and Willy Ambaka dotted down a try each for Shujaa with Antony Omondi converting two of them.
Shujaa face South Africa at 2:20pm before facing off with Great Britain at 7:18pm.
They were quick off the blocks, pinning the Aussies to their half and got their opening try after a patient build up that saw Humwa touch down. Omondi converted for a 7-0 lead.
They continued to dominate the Aussies, landing a second through Odhiambo, Omondi converting for a 14-0 lead before the series leaders and defending champions scored and converted for a 14-7 score at the break.
A second Aussie try and conversion brought them to 14-14 before Ambaka burst down the left flank for Shujaa’s third try as they led 19-14.
A third Australian try leveled the game at 19-19.
