NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 – Deogratius Ojok scored a hattrick as defending champions Tusker FC smashed Nairobi City Stars 4-1 in a Kenya Premier League tie at Ruaraka Complex on Sunday.
The Ugandan first registered his name on the scoresheet in the 6th minute, almost three minutes after Samuel Kapen had put Simba wa Nairobi in the lead.
His first goal seemed to have awakened his appetite for more as he almost registered a second in 13th minute, heading straight at City Stars keeper Jacob Osano who was on hand to save it.
The brewers could have gone ahead in the 25th minute but Shaphan Siwa’s effort was ruled out for offside.
They were not to be denied though, a few minutes later, when Ojok got to the end of a cross from Lawrence Luvanda to make it 2-1.
The goal came just when City Stars were beginning to gain a foothold in the game, with Patrick Matasi in Tusker’s goal reacting spectacularly to what would have been a fantastic bicycle goal by Kapen.
In the second half, the brewers picked up from where they had left off in the interval.
Eric Zakayo had been combining beautifully with Ojok in the Tusker forward line and it soon bore fruits when the latter rose to convert a cross from the former to get his hattrick.
Coach Robert Matano’s charges were relentless and were rewarded once again in the dying embers of the game as substitutes Shami Kibwana and Eric Mmata combined for the last to add the fourth goal.
The win now hauls the defending champions to the top of the table with maximum points from two games, following on from their opening day 2-1 win over Kakamega Homeboyz.
In other matches of the day, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) suffered a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Kakamega Homeboyz as Kariobangi Sharks piped Ulinzi Stars 3-2.
The soldiers, who lost their first match 2-0 to AFC Leopards at their Langata Complex home ground, looked to be on their way to redeeming themselves when Boniface Muchiri put them in the lead in the 31st minute.
However, the slum boys composed themselves to go into the breather leading 3-1 courtesy of goals from Fortune Omoto, Kevin Musamali and Tyson Otieno.
Ulinzi came back guns blazing in the second half but only had Hillary Simiyu’s strike in the 71st minute to show for their efforts.
