NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 25 – Experienced players Vincent Onyala and Bush Mwale have been left out of the Kenya 7s squad that will do duty at the second and third legs of the 2023 Sevens World Series in Dubai and Cape Town.
In the duo’s absence, Shujaa head coach Damian MacGrath has handed debuts to KCB’s Bob Muhati and Mwamba’s Ronald Omondi in the travelling party that is skippered by Nelson Oyoo.
“We’ve introduced two more new caps who were two of the most outstanding players on the recent National Sevens Circuit. Bob Muhati is coming in the forwards and Ronnie Omondi comes in at half back,” MacGrath said.
“We’ve got faith in both these two players, they’ve trained hard and well and they will join George Ooro and Dennis Abukuse from the last leg as new starters,” the coach added.
Onyala has been ruled out because of injury while Mwale is out due to work commitment.
“unfortunately, we’ve lost Vincent Onyala to a season ending injury, which is a real blow for the team. Vincent is one of the world’s best sevens players in my opinion and he’ll be a difficult man to replace.”
“Bush Mwale has been unavailable for training, because of the off-field issues, he’s had to take a part time job, which means he’s not available for training,” said McGrath.
