NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 5 – AFC Leopards put their off the field woes aside to give their fans something to smile about after a hat-trick from scoring machine John Mark Makwatta saw the club smack Zoo FC 4-1 in a Kenyan Premier League match hosted at the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.
In other result, Ulinzi Stars were 2-0 winners over Posta Rangers to climb fourth on the log with 28 points.
In Kakamega County, AFC Leopards, one of the giants Kenyan clubs, have had a rough period that saw them lose their head coach Casa Mbungo and key players like attacking midfielder Yvone Isuza and Dennis Shikayi among others due to financial crisis.
However, that did not distract them from picking up maximum points in style as assistant coach and former player Anthony Kimani stood on the dug out to oversee his charges to a second successive win that saw them sit seventh on the log on 25 points.
Boniface Mukhekhe got to first goal for Ingwe at the quarter hour mark then Makwatta, who is the club’s top scorer opened his hat-trick account in the 24th minute as the first half ended 2-0 in favour of the Leopards.
A minute into the second half, Zoo FC pulled one back thanks to a Collins Neto strike but Makwatta ended their hopes of completing a comeback after the Harambee Stars forward scored a brace in a span of 10 minutes in the 67th and 76th to seal the win for Leopards.
