NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 – Kenya’s Equity bank women’s basketball team registered their third straight win in the ongoing FIBA Zone Five Club Championships taking place Dar es salaam, Tanzania to storm the semi-finals.
The defending champions registered 69-58 win over APR of Rwanda, leading in all quarters of the tightly contested game.
Earlier on, the team sailed through to the last four after a resounding win in their second match after beating hosts Don Bosco 87-47.
On Monday during their opening match the team had also overpowered the gazelles from Burundi.
Meanwhile, the other Kenyan team, Kenya Ports Authority also booked a slot in the semis after a hard fought 58-57 win over JKL Dolphines from Uganda.
“It is good that we won, but we were very poor defensively, and our rotation was poor with lots of turnovers among other things that we must correct to make an impression,” KPA head coach Mike Opel told the Daily Nation.
Against Don Bosco, Equity had Betty Kananu and Annrose Atieno score 28 and 11 points respectively while Bablia Jasmin and Londo Orlin scored 15 and 10 points respectively for the hosts.
A total of seven teams are taking part in the competition which is divided into two pools with pool B having the bulk of the teams.
Finalists will compete in the FIBA Africa clubs championship for women in Madagascar slated to take place between December 6 -15.
