NAIROBI, Kenya, May 29 – Kakamega Homeboyz striker Allan Wanga is in line to win the 2018/19 Kenyan Premier League Golden Boot with 18 goals despite not scoring in their final season match against Sofapaka on Wednesday.
This is after Enosh Ochieng, who has 17 goals saw his Ulinzi Stars side match against relegated Mount Kenya United postponed to Sunday.
Wanga’s Homeboyz suffered a 2-0 defeat against Sofapaka where Umaru Kasumba who was the other Golden Boot contender, having 17 goals failed to score as Stephen Waruru netted a brace.
In the relegation battle, Chemelil and Zoo FC survived while Posta Rangers dropped to the promotion playoff where they are set to face the third team in the National Super League.
Posta will have to go through a relagation/promotion playoff two-legged clash if they are to maintain their status for another season in the Kenyan Premier League after they squandered their chance of avoiding the situation.
This comes after Posta lost 2-0 to Tusker FC in their final match.
Rangers came into the round on 32 points, a point above the relegation playoff slot and only needed to replicate or better the results of Zoo FC (32) and Chemelil Sugar (31), the two teams beneath them, to maintain their place in the topflight.
But they were unable to do so as they fell 2-1 to Tusker at the Ruaraka grounds with Chemelil winning against Sony Sugar and Zoo sealing a point against KCB.
With the league title and automatic relegation slots already wrapped up, the other race that needed to be decided on the final day was the golden boot race with three candidates locked neck and neck.
