MANCHESTER, United Kingdom, Dec 7- Manchester United attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that he only has himself to blame for his poor start to life at Old Trafford.

Mkhitaryan was signed from Borussia Dortmund in the off-season and started against Manchester City in the Premier League on September 10.

However, his lacklustre performance saw him dropped by manager Jose Mourinho for nearly two months.

The Armenian made his return to the side against Fenerbahce in the Europa League on November 3, and has since made three starts, earning two Man of the Match awards in the process.

“There was no bad relation with him [Mourinho], it was always good, but the problem wasn’t him, it was me,” Mkhitaryan told Sky Sports.

“Now I understand why I’ve got my chance and I will keep it and I will hold it because it is very important for me to play, to be a part of Manchester United.

“I was thinking that I would be here as a starting lineup player but, when I arrived, I saw that there were 25 players fighting for their place and I understood that it is not going to be easy.

“I had a bad game against Manchester City but that is in the past so I kept working. I have done a great job to get my chance back. It was a really long way until I started playing.”
