NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 24 – Mwamba RFC will be chasing their first win of the season when they host Western Bulls in the fourth round of Kenya Cup where six matches are lined up in different venues across the country on Saturday.
The 1984 champions have been unlucky in their three outings, falling11-26 away to Nakuru in their opener, following this up with a heartbreaking 24-27 home loss to KCB before once again pushing defending champions Kabras Sugar to the limit, going down 11-20 last weekend in Kakamega.
Facing a Western Bulls side that has been a tough opponent in previous encounters, Kevin Wambua’s charges will head into the tie seeking a win that will give life and momentum to their quest for playoff qualification at the close of the league phase.
At the Nakuru Athletic Club, Top Fry Nakuru will be looking to bounce back from one of their heaviest Kenya Cup defeats in recent years when they take on Kabras.
Other fixtures will see Mean Machine welcome host to KCB at the University of Nairobi Grounds while the weekend’s double header sees Homeboyz play Resolution Impala Saracens with Nondescripts taking on Kenya Harlequin at the ASK Jamhuri Park.
Basement sides Strathmore Leos and Blak Blad clash as they also seek to win the first match.
Both sides have started the 2016/17 campaign on the wrong footing despite some plucky performances and are both winless three games into the season.
The Leos started their campaign with a 17-48 loss to Homeboyz before losing 22-39 to Quins and 12-24 to Resolution Impala Saracens while Blad started with an 8-47 defeat to Quins before falling 18-33 to the Sarries and 11-29 to Nondies respectively.
Both sides are expected to name their match day squads on Thursday evening.
