Nairobi, Kenya, Sep 16- A provisional squad of 32 players has been named ahead of the Safari Sevens scheduled for the weekend of September 23 where Kenya will be represented by two teams.
The squad which has 12 regular players for Kenya Sevens led by all-time world try scorer, Collins Injera, also features players from Kenya Simbas with KCB’s fly-half Dawin Mukidza making the cut.
Notable exclusions from the squad are Nondescript fly-half Biko Adema, veteran Humphrey Kayange, Impala Saracens Scrum-half Robert Aringo, Homeboyz winger Bush Mwale and Kenya Harlequin full back Felix Ayange.
New names also features in the list with a huge chunk coming from players who have impressed in the 2016 National Sevens Series that concludes this weekend with the Christie 7s at RFUEA Grounds.
The announcement of the team was made by Kenya Rugby Union who included head coach Benjamin Ayimba and his technical bench despite the post of coach and Team Manager being advertised by the Union.
Ayimba’s fate alongside that of his assistant, Paul Murunga and Team Manager Newton Ong’alo remains uncertain as their one year contract comes to an end by the end of September.
The teams to represent the country in the two tournaments will be selected from the pool of 34 players which, from its composition, is a blend of upcoming players and established players.
