Kirwa gives Kenya third gold in Paralympics

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 15 – Visually impaired Henry Kirwa handed Kenya third gold medal in the ongoing Paralympic Games in Rio after winning the men’s 5000m-T13 on Thursday.

The win saw Kirwa add on the gold to the bronze he won in the 1500m –T13 on Monday morning at the Olympic Stadium in Rio and take Kenya’s medal tally to five so far.

Kirwa, clocked 14:17.32 to smash Panama’s Said Gomez record of 14:46.00 but was not awarded since he is a T12 athlete.

Morocco’s Chentouf el Amin bagged silver in 14:21.04 ahead of Tunisia’s Aloui Bilel who settled for bronze in 14:33.33 and was given the world record since he is a T-13 athlete.

The other two gold medals came home courtesy of Samuel Muchai Kimani who completed double on Wednesday after winning the men’s 1500m T11 gold to add on the 5000m T11 he won on the opening day.
