NAIROBI, KENYA, Aug 25- Assistant Director of Finance at Sports Kenya (Formerly Sport Stadia Management Board) Francis Kingori Githaiga has been charged for making payments amounting to Sh6.7mn to East Africa Business Times limited without the involvement of the board.
The trial magistrate Felix Kombo was told that the accused committed the offence between 2012 and 2014 and signed several cheques in favour of East Africa Business Times limited for advertising business awarded by the SSMB.
Githaiga was the director of the company and had not brought to the attention of the board that he had interest in the company, in which cheques were made in favour.
He had been released by the Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission on a cash bail of Sh50,000. However the court said that due to public interest and weight of the matter it ordered he deposit a cash bail of Sh1mn.
The court also gave him an alternative of a bond of Sh3mn and directed that the matter be heard on Novermber 7 and 8 2016.
