LENS, France, July 24- Arsenal retain an interest in Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez but have yet to make an offer.
Reports in France on Saturday claimed a Sh5.6bn deal was imminent after the 25-year-old’s agent Kamel Bengougam spoke to Arsenal following their friendly against Lens on Friday night.
However, Bengougam confirmed he was at Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Lens but denied such a deal is in place. He was there to watch another client 18-year-old Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
Arsene Wenger is a confirmed admirer of Mahrez though Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri has publicly claimed the player will stay at the King Power Stadium saying: ‘It’s over, the market is over here, Mahrez wants to stay.’
An improved contract remains on the table for the coveted winger but he has yet to sign.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris St Germain have also been credited with interest in the Algerian.
Mahrez put in a dazzling display during Leicester’s International Champions Cup win over Celtic. He scored the game’s opener before the Bhoys equalised through Eoghan O’Connell.
The Foxes won the match on penalties with Daniel Amartey netting the decisive spot-kick.
