NAIROBI, Kenya, June 29 – National sevens women’s head coach Mike Shamiah has named a provisional squad of 18 players that will head into camp to prepare for the August Rio Olympic Games.
Regulars Philadelphia Olando, Celestine Masinde, Rachel Mbogo, Kate Abilla, Doreen Remour and veteran Mary Musieka have been included in the squad which also features flyers Janet Okello and Sinaida Aura.
“We will trim the squad further before settling on the final 12 players for the Olympics. There is huge competition. The young girls coming through the squad have shown a lot of hunger. The veterans too are showing their leadership and experience, it should be an exciting mix once we name the final team,” Shamiah told Kenya Rugby Union.
The Lionesses are in Pool B with New Zealand, France and Spain for the Olympic Games which run from August 6-8 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
