UNITED KINGDOM, May 26 – Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has poured cold water on rumours of a reunion with Jose Mourinho at former club Manchester United.

The former Chelsea boss is expected to be unveiled as Louis van Gaal’s successor at Old Trafford by the end of the week, but Ronaldo was quick to play down rumours that he might return to England.

“He’s already signed hasn’t he? I think it’s good,” Ronaldo said in an interview with the ‘Jugones’ programme on Spanish television.

The Portuguese duo worked together at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, and Ronaldo hopes the 53-year-old can restore United to their previous glory, although he expects to stay in Spain.

“If it’s something United wanted I think it’s good,” Ronaldo added. “I hope Manchester United get back to what they were because it’s an impressive club but in the last years they lacked an identity a bit.

“And it hurts me seeing United like that because it’s a club I carry in my heart. I wish Mourinho can restore them back to the top.

“Right now yes I am happy and I want to stay at this club. I don’t see any other club that is better than Real Madrid. If you weigh things up there is no better club. So all other clubs can forget about me because Real Madrid is the best.”
