Ranieri: Arsenal, Tottenham title favourites

Claudio Ranieri has led Leicester City to the top of the Premier League.

LEICESTER, Tuesday 1st – Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has insisted that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur remain the favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

Leicester currently hold a two-point lead at the top of the standings heading into their Premier League clash with West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday. Tottenham are two points adrift in second, with Arsenal a further three points back.

Heading into his side’s midweek fixture, Ranieri has suggested that the squads posessed by the two London clubs makes them the teams to beat.

“I think Tottenham and Arsenal are very favourites,” he told Sky Sports. “Arsenal have players who can do anything, and they can win every match.”

Ranieri asserted that he is not interested in Arsenal and Tottenham’s recent results as he is solely focused on helping his team maintain their fairytale season.

“I was with my family, I didn’t watch,” he said. “When I came back I was very focused on West Brom. It’s always important what we are doing, not the others.”

Leicester triumphed over West Brom 3-2 when they last met in October, but Ranieri admitted that his side were made to fight hard for their three points.

The 64-year-old is expecting a similar kind of match this time around and urged his side not to let their guard down.

“When you play against teams like Norwich, and West Bromwich, we had to be patient and find the solution,” he said. “The first match against WBA was tough. They scored first, and we slowly got better. I am waiting for the same this time.

“We have to continue to play our football, be intelligent, and take the right moment. What we are doing is important, not the others. West Brom were 3-0 up against Crystal Palace. They are a very dangerous team.

“It’s important to concentrate. They are very good on the counter-attack with [Salomon] Rondon, [Stephane] Sessegnon and [Saido] Berahino, and they are also very dangerous on the corner. They’ve scored eight or nine goals from set-plays.

“We must concentrate. If we take a clean sheet we can do something. They have a lot of players who impress me. Did you see Norwich? They started the match with the long ball and said ‘come on then’. We have to patient and find the right solution.”
