LONDON, January 25- Victor Valdes has finally concluded a frustrating spell at Manchester United after joining Standard Liege on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper signed for United on an 18-month contract in January 2015 after training with the club in a bid to regain his fitness following a serious knee injury.

However, Valdes was left out in the cold by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal this term for allegedly refusing to play for the Under-21’s in the latter stages of the 2014/15 campaign.

The Spain international denied the claim, but found himself omitted from Van Gaal’s Premier League and Champions League squads.

Valdes will now look to get his career back on track in the Belgian Pro League after Les Rouches announced they had acquired his services until the end of the season, subject to the completion of a medical.

He had bid the United fans farewell earlier this week in a message on Twitter, which read: “Thank you all for your support during these months of hard work for me. I will never forget!”

A statement on the Belgian club’s official website read: “Standard de Liège, Manchester United and Victor Valdes have reached an agreement; the Spanish goalkeeper is lent to our club until the end of this season (depending on the outcome of his medical tests).

“We are very proud and happy that we can receive such a professional. We would like to give a warm welcome to Victor Valdes and we wish him all the best at our club.”
