LONDON, December 20- Chelsea captain John Terry has suggested the playing squad feel guilty over Jose Mourinho’s sacking, claiming they are just as responsible for the club’s poor run of form.

The defending Premier League champions have endured their worst start to a top-flight season since 1978, and last weekend’s loss to Leicester City marked the final straw for owner Roman Abramovich, who showed the manager the door.

The Blues did manage to find a response on Saturday as they hammered Sunderland 3-1 to climb four points clear of the relegation zone after 17 league matches, with caretaker manager Guus Hiddink watching from the stands, but speaking after the game, Terry admitted the players also need to take responsibility for their poor form.

“Our thoughts are with the manager because we’re disappointed that it falls on his head, unfortunately,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think all of us are in this position, there’s not one or two individuals. That’s me speaking honestly. We’re in this position because one or two have performed and the rest haven’t unfortunately.

“That’s behind us now, in the past, we have to move on and win football matches. There was a lot of pressure on us before the game, but listen, we brought that on ourselves.

“We’re big enough to stand up and be counted for, and today we needed everyone, and everyone was superb today.

“Some of the football was excellent, we were delighted with the first half.”
