LONDON, December 15- Following a disastrous week for the club, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has voiced his doubts over manager Louis van Gaal.
Manchester United followed up their midweek Champions League elimination at the hands of Wolfsburg with a 2-1 loss at Bournemouth at the weekend, stretching their winless streak to five matches.
Van Gaal’s decisions and tactics have been widely questioned this season, and Ferdinand seemingly shares the same opinion as many fans and pundits.
Speaking to The Sun, Ferdinand said: “Manchester United are going backwards again and I don’t see that changing because the manager will not change.
“The board and owners might want to be loyal to Van Gaal after investing so much in him, but they also have to do what is best for United. The next six months are absolutely crucial.”
Meanwhile, Van Gaal remains confident his side can still win the Premier League, saying: “We have the selection to [win the Premier League].
“Now, I am going to challenge my players. We need to win three games in a week just to still be up there after Christmas. We can do that, but we have to keep fighting.”
