NAIROBI, September 15- KCB attacker Paul Mungai Kiongera is looking to aid his team escape the chop after being voted the best player in the Sport Pesa Premier League (SPL) by fans for the month of August in a week long poll conducted on soka.co.ke.
Kiongera beat off stiff competition from Muhoroni Youth’s George Mandela who received the SJAK/SportsPesa Player of the Month of August gong also on Tuesday, Nakuru All Stars’ Lwamba Bebeto Mulondwa, Sofapaka’s Fuadi Ndayisenga and Nairobi City Stars striker Sanneh Ebrima to emerge the winner.
“This award means so much to me and to my club, KCB, as well. It means the fans appreciate my talent and I’ll now have to work harder,” he said.
“It also means that we have good players at the club because I wouldn’t have won it as an individual, it all about team work,” the former Gor Mahia and Tanzanian giants Simba SC player said.
Kiongera bagged 1,808 of the 3003 votes cast representing 60.21 percent with Mandela second on 637 (21.21% ) as Bebeto came third on 297 (9.89%).
Fuadi (149/ 4.96%) and Gambian striker Ebrima (112/3.73%) rounded the top five.
“We have faith as team that things will work out for us. We have very good players and I believe we will remain in the top-tier, that is what everyone is hoping for,” the player whose club are in danger of the drop in 14th added.
The KCB talisman was the fourth player to win it after Gor Mahia’s Victor Ali Abondo, Jacob Keli, formerly of AFC Leopards and Bernard Mangoli of AFC Leopards.
