NAIROBI, August 22 – Muhoroni Youth came from behind twice to hold on Gotv Shield champions Sofapaka 2-2 in a thrilling Sport Pesa Premier League at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.

In Kisumu, Samuel Ouma scored the winner as Chemelil Sugar ended their four match winless run after stopping basement side Nakuru All Stars 1-0 whilst at Nairobi City Stadium KCB were forced for a barren draw by visiting Sony Sugar.

In the only televised match of the day, veteran forward John Baraza gave Sofapaka the lead on the 26th minute but Francis Ocholla restored parity on the stroke of half-time with a superb header.

Assistant skipper, Felly Mulumba reclaimed the lead for Batoto ba Mungu in the 82nd but George Mandela ensured spoils were shared when he levelled for the Sugar Millers on stoppage time.

The result saw the Sam Timbe side fail to close on second placed Ulinzi Stars who are away on East Africa Military Games to remain third on 42 points, two behind the Soldiers.

The opening half saw both sides approach the match cautiously with Sofapaka coming close through David Mbakiye who headed over the bar.

Wycliffe Nyangechi’s and Mike Khaduli had a chance to send Muhoroni ahead but they both failed to hit the target.

Baraza put Sofapaka ahead mid way when he received a through pass from Fuadi Ndayisenga to control it before smashing it into the top right corner for the opener.

The Sugar Millers found their equaliser just before the breather after Ocholla headed in between Sofapaka keeper, Evariste Mutuyimana legs from a Kennedy Rono cross.

Batoto Ba Mungu took the lead once again on the restart but it had to wait until the last seven minutes of the game for Mulumba to head home Aphrodis Kanombe’s free-kick from the right.

The lead however did not last long with Mandela denying the 2009 champions maximum points with a lovely volley from inside the area to ensure his side sit seventh on 33 points and go 10 matches unbeaten.
