LONDON, July 26- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Mesut Ozil’s third campaign in England could be his best season so far.
The Germany international has scored 12 goals in his 71 appearances for the Gunners, but often struggled to live up to the expectations that came with his record-breaking transfer from Real Madrid.
But as the Gunners look to add the Premier League trophy to their back-to-back FA Cup successes since the 26-year-old’s arrival, Wenger is confident the former Werder Bremen star can produce his best football.
“Could this be his best season? Yes. He had a difficult start but slowly he has won over our fans,” Wenger said.
“He missed the whole first part of the season last year and came back to his best level in the second part of the season. Hopefully he can deliver a whole season now.”
The Gunners continued their pre-season preparations with a 6-0 win over Ligue 1 runners-up Lyon at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, in which Ozil grabbed the fifth and assisted two more.
Arsenal will also face Wolfsburg in the same competition on Sunday before starting their season at Wembley, where they will play Premier League champions Chelsea for the Community Shield.
