LONDON, July 7- Chelsea legend Frank Lampard believes former teammate Petr Cech will turn Arsenal into title contenders next season.
Cech was forced to sit on the bench for most of the Blues’ title winning campaign as Jose Mourinho opted for the younger Thibauit Courtois, prompting the former to make a 10 million move across North London.
The Czech Republic international is expected to move straight into the Gunners starting line-up, and Lampard says the 33-year-old will prove invaluable as Arsene Wenger’s look to push Chelsea and City for the Premier League title.
“Arsenal signing Petr Cech is a big deal. A lot of mates who are Arsenal fans have bemoaned their keeper situation for ages,” the New York City FC midfielder told the Daily Star.
“Cech is a world-class keeper and person and I think he can help push Arsenal right into the running next season. Arsenal weren’t a million miles away over the last few seasons.
“They are always challenging before falling just short but I think Cech going there, as John Terry said recently, will save them points.
“I think Man City and Chelsea will be challenging for the title once again. They remain favourites but Petr will make a difference.”
