KISUMU, June 12 – Long hitting Mumias golfer Dismas Indiza is the winner of the third-leg of KCB Pro-Am Golf Tour that ended at par 70 Nyanza Golf Club in Kisumu on Friday.
Indiza fired two under par 70 in the fourth round to take home Sh170, 000 from the Sh1m prize money offered for the 12 players who made the cut on Wednesday.
The win saw Indiza grab his second series win this season, having triumphed in the opening leg at Nairobi Royal in February.
“I had a bad start in the leg on Tuesday. Things failed to work out. But I kept the faith and turned the leader board on the second day. I have not looked back since then,” delighted, Indiza noted.
He had four birdies in first nine (holes one, five, six and nine) and two (holes 11, 15) in the back nine.
Indiza was boosted with an Eagle in the tenth but despite the win, he blamed the rough greens for his misfiring in the putts.
Royal Nairobi golfer David Wakhu emerged runners up with 277(74, 65, 69, 69) gross to pocket Sh117, 000.
He was closely followed by Thika’s Simon Ngige who carded 279 gross after recording 69,69,70,71 in the four rounds that commence on Tuesday.
Ngige admitted he struggled with the greens following a wrist injury he incurred the other week.
“The greens were bumpy and course very dry. There was no easy ride on the dry fairways,” noted Ngige who pocketed Sh102, 000 for settling third.
Day one leader Rizwan Charania of Windsor Hotel and Country Club ended the contest fourth with280 gross.
“I lacked great play in the front nine but was better in the back nine, I’ve not been playing serious golf since Kenya Open in April,” Charania, who had three birdies in the last five holes stated.
A golf clinic was held at the course ahead of the corporate amateur golf that tees off at the same venue on Saturday.
The KCB Golf Tour series has so far been to Royal and Thika SC with the fourth round set for Nakuru Golf Club from July 7-19.
KCB Group sponsored the top four Pros of the Pro-Am tour series to play in the South Africa’s Sunshine tour.
Last year, four Pros were sponsored, including Indiza from Mumias Golf Club, Wangai from Sigona Golf Club, Wakhu from Royal Nairobi Golf Club and David Odhiambo from Nyanza Golf Club.
