LONDON, May 11- Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas is backing former club Barcelona to win the treble this season as they prepare for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich.
Barca head into Tuesday’s match at the Allianz Arena with a 3-0 aggregate lead from the first leg at Camp Nou, meaning they are on course to reach the final in Berlin.
After beating Real Sociedad at the weekend, the Catalans are four points clear at the top of La Liga with two games left to play, and also have a Copa del Rey final against Athletic Bilbao on the horizon.
Fabregas left Spain to return to England with title-winning Chelsea, but has been paying attention to his boyhood club and thinks they have what it takes to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.
“Barcelona have been playing at a devastating level for four or five months,” Fabregas told Cadena COPE. “They have three exciting weeks ahead of them in which to win titles.
“Luis Enrique has the important control that Barca had during the time of [Pep] Guardiola, but they are now even more lethal.
“They do not need to have the ball to score goals and this makes the team more dangerous. The three players up front (Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez) and Gerard Pique are at a very high level, and I believe they will win everything this year.”
Fabregas also spoke of the importance of Messi to the club, after his two goals and inspired performance in the first leg gave them their lead against the Bundesliga champions.
“Leo loves Barca,” he said “He belongs to Barca. When people talk of Barcelona, they think of the face of Leo Messi. For me, he is a living legend.
“In the future, he will decide what to do with his life and his career, but Barca is Leo and Leo is Barca. Today, I do not think anyone doubts this.”
