ELDORET, April 7- After winning her first senior women 8km gold medal at the Guiyang World Cross in China, Agnes Jebet Tirop has set her focus on the summer World Championships in Beijing and IAAF Diamond League.
Having impressed in China where she uncorked a front running master class to succeed two-time champion; Emily Chebet, the teenager has landed invitation to compete at the Shanghai Diamond League meeting on May 17.
The starlet, 19 will run in the 1500m race as she eyes a place in the Kenyan team for the biennial track and field showpiece as she seeks to extend her podium run at an international showpiece.
“I know winning World Championships is not easy but I will try my best to come with a medal. I did well in my junior races and I have to do the same as a senior,” said Jebet.
She added winning in Guiyang was only the beginning of what she has set out to be a storied career.
“I will try to run 1,500m race in Shanghai to gauge my speed ahead of preparations for the World Championships in the same country,” she added.
Nahashon Koech of her Global Sport Management added she will try to compete at next weekend’s Athletics’ Kenya meeting.
“She is stable in her running and we have to use the weekend meetings to enable her gauge the speed before focusing the world championships trials later at Nyayo stadium,” Koech stated.
