NAIROBI, Kenya, January 28 – Rwandan international Meddie Kagere has completed his one-year move to champions Gor Mahia on a Sh2,016,554 (USD22,000) transfer fee.
Kagere, the 2011 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup top scorer arrived in the country on Monday night to join the 14-time Kenyan Premier League champions as a free agent after contract with Albanian side KF Tirana was cut short at the beginning of the year.
“Kagere is already training with the team. We wanted him to sign a two year contract but he wanted a year’s stay, but we hope we can convince him otherwise,” club’s Deputy Secretary General Naima Oketch told Capital Sport.
Kagere’s arrival will put to rest the uncertainty surrounding Ugandan defender Israel Emuge who might be dropped after K’Ogalo exhausted their foreign quota, having seven already.
The 29-year-old who has had stint with Rwanda sides Police FC and Rayon Sports will join newly signed forwards Ghanaian Taofiq Zachary and Michael Olunga as K’Ogalo seek to fill the void left by Cranes talisman Dan Sserunkuma.
Meanwhile, Zambian titans Power Dynamos are expected to arrive in the country Friday evening ahead of their friendly against Gor on Sunday at Nairobi City Stadium.
Gor will be using the build-up match as part of their preparation for the CAF Champions League preliminary round against Madagascar champions CNAPS.
“The coach wanted the match to be played at Nyayo Stadium because that’s where we will play our Champions League matches. But we were unable to secure the venue because the management said they had closed it down to prepare it for the CAF matches. The VIP entrance will cost Sh500 while the terraces will retail at Sh200,” Okech stated.
The friendly will be Gor’s third pre-season match after losing 2-0 to Bandari on Saturday before bouncing back with a 2-1victory over Mombasa combined.
