Cameroon’s Enoh out of rest of group stage

MALABO, Equatorial Guinea, January 23 – Cameroon coach Volker Finke on Friday confirmed that midfielder Eyong Enoh will not feature in either of the Indomitable Lions’ remaining group games at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Standard Liege player was forced off early in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Mali and had already been ruled out of Saturday’s second Group D match against Guinea.

And Finke confirmed that the 28-year-old will also be unavailable for the final group match against the Ivory Coast in Malabo next Wednesday, with no return expected before a potential quarter-final on February 1.

“We lost Enoh. He is injured and I think the truth is a minimum of one week,” said Finke on the eve of the clash with Guinea.

Enoh did not train with his team-mates on Thursday night, being limited to stretches on the side of the pitch with his left thigh heavily bandaged.

However, Finke welcomes back captain Stephane Mbia, who is available again after injury and suspension and will start in midfield.

“Maybe Mbia won’t last 90 minutes but he will start and I hope he lasts the whole game,” said Finke.

“We have no choice with the absence of Enoh, he will play in midfield. I say that because he has always played in central defence in qualifying but it’s no secret to say he will play in midfield tomorrow.”
