LONDON, November 24- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits he feels “so sorry for the fans” after his side slumped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United on Saturday.
The Gunners were on top for the majority of this weekend’s Emirates Stadium encounter, but proved extremely wasteful to eventually allow the Red Devils to twice hit them on the break to take a 2-0 lead.
Olivier Giroud did manage to at least breach United’s defence in injury time, although his ferocious strike proved inconsequential in the tie as the north Londoners finished the day eighth in the standings.
“There was lots of energy,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “We produced a game of quality and energy and in the end we didn’t get the reward. Manchester United had two shots on target and we lost the game – that’s what it was.
“All the rest was one of the most one-way traffic games I’ve seen against United. I feel so sorry for our fans and the energy level the players put in not to get a win today because it’s so disappointing.
“We have to look at ourselves as well because we made a big mistake for the first goal and we were too impatient after when we were 1-0 down just because we wanted to come back quickly.
“We’re not efficient in the zone where the games are won offensively and defensively. Unfortunately their goalkeeper had a great game as well.”
