Angola say no to CAF, search goes on

CHIANZI-STADIUMPARIS, November 13- Angola announced on Wednesday they were not interested in replacing Morocco as eleventh hour hosts of the crisis-hit 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Angola’s decision leaves three potential candidates  – Egypt, Gabon and Nigeria – to put on the continental showcase.

Morocco were stripped of the right to host it after insisting on a postponement, citing as their reason the deadly Ebola epidemic.

Morocco’s stance irked organisers the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The federation’s president, Issa Hayatou, told France24: “To postpone the Africa Cup of Nations would be like stopping African football dead.”

“Once you postpone this event, it will open the door for everybody to ask for a delay of any competition and we will no longer be credible,” added the 68-year-old Cameroonian who has been in office since 1988.

Angola had emerged as one of the front runners to come to the aid of the troubled 2015 Nations Cup which is due to start in two months time, on January 17.

The oil-rich state’s insistence that they were not interested in hosting a competition they staged in 2010 came from Joao Lusevikueno, vice president of the Angolan football federation.

He told AFP by telephone from Luanda: “Angola is not going to host the competition, we haven’t presented our candidature and it is not our intention to do so.”

He added that to step in and organise a competition of this scale in two months — it is due to start on January 17 — was “virtually impossible”.

Angola’s staging of the 2010 Nations Cup was marred by the attack on the Togo team bus by separatists in the restless enclave of Cabinda which killed two people.

With Angola out of the picture the countries thought to be still in contention for taking over from Morocco as 2015 hosts are multiple African champions Egypt, Gabon, which co-hosted the 2012 edition with Equatorial Guinea, and reigning champions Nigeria.

Organisers the Confederation of African Football are due to announce the next hosts “in two or three days” Hayatou said.

The Cup was thrown into jeopardy in early October when Morocco first called for a delay.

CAF however eventually lost patience with the north African country and on Tuesday barred them out as hosts and participants with a heavy fine likely to follow.

The fact that Morocco are also set to host the Club World Cup, only 25 days before the scheduled January 17 kickoff, threw further doubts over Morocco’s reasons prompting Hayatou and his members to pull the plug.

Rumours that the three-week football feast could be moved outside Africa with 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar an unprecedented option were quickly dismissed by Qatar Football Association vice-president Saud al-Muhannadin.

“It is illogical, the news is false.” he told AFP.

Moroccan sports minister Mohamed Ouzzine defended their stance and said they had simply asked for a postponement, until the Ebola disease was brought under control.

“The CAF statement said we refuse to organise the Nations Cup, and it’s wrong. We want the tournament in our country, but we maintain our demand to postpone it,” Ouzzine told parliament.

“The WHO (World Health Organisation) says that every country has the right to take the necessary measures to protect its citizens. The whole world is incapable to find some treatment or some solution for that disease (Ebola), so isn’t it a force majeure?

“We can talk about sanctions now, but we should not forget what would happen in case we have not taken our decision.”

CAF executive committee member Constant Omari defended the decision to strip the 1976 winners of the right to stage what would have been their second tournament, after 1988, when they reached the semi-finals.

“The CAF put no pressure on Morocco but they are a member who belong to the CAN (Nations Cup). We signed an agreement that the CAN would be organised between January 17 and February 8 and there was no talk of postponement during the inspections.

“Then two months before the tournament, Morocco decide they want to change the dates.

“These dates have not been decided randomly, it is a season when all of Africa has a period of more or less dry weather. We have incorporated these dates into the universal FIFA calendar and it is our showcase event.”

The CAF also confirmed that qualification matches for the tournament will go ahead as planned on November 14-15 with the final round of matches set four days later.

The Ebola disease has claimed almost 5,000 lives, essentially in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Eritreans r suffering back home. We dont really care if the regime get punished. Eritreans r tired of the brutal regime and they definitely would like to get rid of him. We wish for more sanctions.

I am very sorry for the above article, even though the content is that what the horn countries need to solve their misunderstandings, but to the contrary it is these countries who put Eritrea in sanction by cooperating with the chronic foe of Eritrean people the US. If we were the same brotherly people we have the capacity to solve our problems even that of our Somali people. Regretfully to say we will never be capable peoples and governments until we free ourselves from external interference and spies for the powers.

7 regional Countrys plus the Superpower USA plus the the whole mendacious UN Security Council and Eritrea is still undeafeted.  Why can hold a small country like Eritrea the whole world busy? Becouse it has the truth on its side.
Nothing is more powerful than the truth. The Eritean poeple  honor and live the thruth and when the Kenian poeple do the same, we will find our way to solv the problems.  But If the Kenias represent the lie as truth and applies it against us, then the door will be closed for Genaration. No matter how big the challange is, stay with the truth, this is and allways was the eritrean cultur. The Eritrean poeple dont´t want to please no one, we demand fairness and the truth.  Stay with the truth!   We know our leader very well and they are very hard , they demand a lot of us  and  even to martyrdom but they would never  support terrorism, never !!!! Never!  So dear Kenians, dont cut the connection to your brothers becouse of repeated lies.

Kenya don’t have a clue what it is getting into.  It is trying to impress its western backers and divert the attention of the public.  Being a puppet has not helped any African country in the past.

We live in the world where the might is right. It’s such reality that landed Eritrea a sanction not because of its involvement with Al-Shabab. Interestingly, Kenyan government knows of these facts more than any other country. Unfortunately, for reasons which have yet to be unveiled, Kenya chose to follow the path of Ethiopia and, using its influence in IGAD and the rather cozy relationship with Washington, plot to harm a country that was on a verge of strengthening diplomatic relationship with Kenya.
The damage is done. The conspiracy is open for everyone to see. Just because another illegal sanction was imposed on Eritrea based on falsified reports and fake documents does not mean “Kenya is vindicated” as the Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs alluded to. There are many unanswered questions. How did Eritrea manage to deliver 3plane- loads of ammunitions to Alshabab, as it was alleged by Kenya? How will the Kenyan people benefit by harming Eritrea’s economy? Until and unless these questions are answered genuinely, I can’t  see the normalization of ties between the two countries.

    The softer
sanctions which were passed recently sent timely message to the brutal dictator
who is allying himself with alshabab to get funds from Alqaeda. I don’t think
Eseyas will stop supporting Alshabab because he is the middle man b/n Alqaeda
and Alshebab. The middle man makes money to run the corrupt and brutal system
he has at home in Eritrea. If he stops being middle man he can’t run the system
he wants to exist. There is only one TV, one Radio, and one News paper that all
clap for the actions of the paranoid dictator. the dictator is not even fairly
close to any other dictator in Africa of our time. This guy is in power by
terrorising his own people. There is no any social media that people get
information in Eritrea to challenge his actions. It is not allowed to organise
in any form inside the country to have other opinion than his. Eseyas Aforki is
#1 by jailing Journalists, Eseyas Aforki arrested 12 of his ministers and they
are inprisoned since 2001, many of them died in prison,. Eseyas Aforki imprisoned
pastors Evangelists and church leaders in hundreds and remain in prison for
decade many of them died in prison. Eseyas Aforki runs a hidden company that
crashed all other bussiness men and companies in the country and people only
but their goods from this company called RED SEA corportaion. Eseyas Aforki’s
colours are uglier from inside on the top what he does in the region. These
sanctions are so little for the brutal dictator he deserves more than that.
Eseyas Aforki is more cruel and lunatic dictator than Gadafi was. Gadafi had
some sort of freedom inside the country one to express his/her opinion but
Eseyas is so paranoid to listen to any sort of critics from inside. We are
writing and talking from diasporas because we couldn’t do it from inside.

    Given the
behaviour of Eseyas Aforki softer sanctions will not work but UN Security
council and IGAD will escalate the sanction when they find out the fact
    supporting Alshabab is continuing.

    Peace and
    love for Eritrea.

Don’t make a fool of yourself and stick to the issue at hand. Do you honestly believe that Eritrean government supports Alshabab? Not that I fully agree with your blobs about the domestic issues, the subject is Kenya’s and others pure allegation that Eritrea is linked somehow with Alshabab which resulted in sanction. As an Eritrean (Im assuming you’re) do you concur with IGADs accusation, SEMG report that Eritrea contributed to desstabilization of the region? Nevermine! I don’t expect a well thought, constructive discussion from someone with other agendas.

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie — deliberate, contrived, and dishonest — but the myth — persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
    John F. Kennedy

Indeed, it seems to me the office of the Kenyan foreign affairs and its deputy foreign minister are caught in a situation where they have to admit about their malicious fabrications about Eritrea or save face in front of the Kenyan public and the world.

What difference does it make to the Eriterians, to tell them that was not your intention after you attempted and utterly failed, to create a persistent, persuasive and unrealistic myth which you are still relying upon to save face?

Is this supposed to be a diplomatic spin?

If it is, it must be from the IGAD book of Diplomacy, as it is very similar and laughable as the statement that came out of the foreign ministry of the minority genocidal regime in Ethiopia.

    Here is their statement

[“Ethiopia has no intention to harm Eritrean people: Ministry of Foreign Affairs”]

Here is also some of the laughable excerpts from the same foreign ministry

[“All the member states of IGAD asked the United Nations to toughen sanctions against Eritrea because the region’s stability is at stake. The sanctions do not include the remittance that Eriterians living overseas sent home to their families, and adding, it displayed the member states’ concern for the people.”]

What a  bunch of Hypocrites!!!! They (IGAD) made a deliberate and malicious attempt to isolate Eritrea by fabricating terrorism stories including selling their soul and making a fool out of themselves in front of the world via a videotape and teleconference and now at the eleventh hour, after their utter diplomatic failure, they want to insult our intelligence by waxing elequant spinning stupid stories. What a shame!!!!  The truth about where the malicious fabrications emanated from must be told save face or not!!!!

Kenyan leaders are in trouble. Why they afraid Eritrea? They were the one who accused and witnessed Eritrean military support before weeks, and now they are wrekling and thier stand is indeterminant. WHo cares any ways. Eritrea indeed support the Alshabab and proxy war to Ethiopia:  Eritrea invaded Djibouty and support South Sudans and the Dead Sri-lanka’s rebels also. Look, who Eritrean gang leaders work day and night in contract from the international norms and rules
UN is not a puppet, nor a collection of morron like KEnyan indecision Ministers, It is an internation responsible council. Even Russia and China codemn the Eritrean act in the horn.

THe other thing is, as an Ethiopian: Ethiopian are brave, what they said never change or alter because of fear or anything. What Meles has said is, ‘If the international society fails to signal Eritrea to stop from evil acts, we Ethiopian solve it by Miitary”.
Who cares, we don’t need Quatar, ISrael, Ethiopia and Ugaanda eto defeat the silly Alshababa like Kenya, we got the power and kick the Eritrean a** at any time.
Eritrea is claiming as Ethiopia invaded my territory, so why don’t they solve it by power as they did it before 10 years, and as they did agains Yemene and Djibouty?? Because they know the lions power.

Damn, my fraid said well :The minister at the pick time were accusing Eritrea for arming alshabab, so what is happening right now niggaa??
Ethiopia is a special country in the horn, no one and nothing can defeat this country, our identify and history is what we are right now, we don’t like to talk to much and we are what we are. We are s flag for blacks freedom, fighing for independent and agains from European colonizers, we are brave and patriotic people. We love our nebeoughrs, we love all African, we support Kenyata, Mugabi and Mandela during the fight for freedom.
No one cares for Eritrea, no even talk about Eritrea in the country. We don’t care about parasitic moron slaves in the North, once they were our part and sucking our blood, now we have already desposed them at all.
Look at the comments, all are Eritrean, because their artififical state’s economic and identity pillars are ‘LIE’ and “LIE’. Talking everywhere, here and there..bla bla……Once they had a dream to be Singapoor..thoug in reality they are Sing-a-poor.  So they keep talking talking…
Belive me, you can see any news papers printed in the country, nobody gives shit for Eritrea, we have our own problems and economic miracles as well. We are working, Eritrean are talking, Kenyan are shaking ……blew………loosers.

Thanks for your well thought statement. As an Eritrean, I have not and never had ill wishes towards kenyans. In fact Eritreans are thankful to Kenya for providing refugee during their difficult times.
However, many Eritreans are saddened by Kenya’s unsubstantiated allegation against Eritrea, accusing it of supplying Alshabab with ammunition. Come on!! our good name has been severely tarnished. Under such circumstances, how is it possible  that Kenya  expect a normalization of ties with Eritrea while, on the same breath, accusing it of supporting terrorism. As humans, we have feelings too and must demand explanation why Kenya chose to follow Ethiopia’s path and use Eritrea as a scapegoat for the misguide policy of Somalia

Well Ethiopian, you are just getting emotional and desperate. Eritrea is much much better and prosporous than your country Ethiopia, which is famine striken, poor , with millions of its population in Hunger, that is unlike Eritrea, which is the only country in east africa managed to feed itself and be famine free. That is amazing. eritrea have got a double digit ecinomic growth, with its booming mining industry, That is the reality, and that is why Ethiopia is trying to subbotage Eritrean development with sanctions with the help of the USA.Concerning the boarder war waged by Ethiopia against Eritrea, yes you are right 100,000 people died, but 80,000 of them were poor Ethiopians, and we clearly won the war militarly and on the ground as the disputed town of BADME was ruled to be an Eritrean territory. Interms of refugees, we got a lot of Ethiopian refugees on our side too, compared to a couple og thousand you guys have.So you better stop lying to your self, coz you are just day dreaming with your lies. Ethiopias priority should be feeding its hungry people, because the only thing Ethiopia is know is by FAMINE and HUNGER, unlike Eritrea which is more prosporous and brighter future. Refer the Human development Index (HDI) report of the United nations, which clearly shows that ERITREA far more developing than Ethiopia and exeeds Ehiopias capabilities on all feels, i.e, in Education, Health, life expectancy,Gross income per capita… etc.

Tedros, you are really funny guy, actually it is not new for the world. Ethiopia has a population of 80, million and at least we have been feeding 76 million people. last year only 4 milion people were startved. and the government was able to manage the crises by importing a 300 million birr worth food. Look, Eritrea has 4 million as its been said above, but in Sudan alone, there are thousands of refugees and in Ethiopia half a million, which means one fourth of the population are in Sudan and Kenya alone. Hopefully, you are also outside.
Ethiopian fertile and plenty of lands can feed even the entire Africa, Eritrea is aride dry land and no water and huge rivers potential enough to be irrigated or for any hydropower dam in a sustainable manner.
UN has reported the dailly Eritean citizens fleeding their land has doubled from the last years alone and already established another new refugees campus in the North. But i never heard of any refugee campus placed in Eritrea.

Ethiopias economic miracle is not to be mentioned here, you can google everywhere on the internet. We were extrimely poor because of you parasite people were sucking the blood of Ethiopia. Now, we are free from you at  least from direct sucking of blood and Ethiopian are busy in building wind farms, establishing electric power transmission line, and building roads roads and rail ways. You can’t deny it.
Eritrean 2 billion GDP is equivalent to one PLC in Addis Ababa, if you gow 10% for 50 years, it is unimaginable to reach a 80 billion economy which is the fourth largest in sub shara countries.

Well do you mean the ‘aid Economy”. 80% of Ethiopian Buddget is donations of Aid from the west. Ethiopia is the second country after Egypt of highest aid receiver from the USA. So that means litarally Ethiopia does not have an economy. and what economy are you talking about, people are in a very long lines to get gas and other necessities from the government subsidised ‘shops’, everything is expensive in for the common Ethiopian this days, is this the Economy that u r talking about? you are dreaming my friend. Ethiopia is unable to feed its own people with all the aids. Ethiopia is the only uncoloniased country in Africa, it is shame that it is the poorest country, Eritrea is independent for only 20 years and has done what Ethiopia was unable to do in 200 years. What a shame. And do you really believ there are 500,000 Eritreans in Ethiopia. I think you are a moran, just tricking your self my making up a lie. You believe your lie, no one else will . you said Ethiopia have got 80 milion people and u said it managed to feed 76 m, you are lieing, the USA is feeding your population, but Eritreans are feeding its own people with out Aid, that is the fact my friend

Wetangula is not Al Bashir’s equal, yet as Foreign Minister he met the President of Sudan. It is foolish to take that line of reasoning in sending away the request of Eritrea’s foreign minister.

For some reaon, i also have limited faith in this Wetangula fellow…., and his Assistant…, they’ve done and said things we would rather not have them speak on my behalf on foreign policy issues

Are you saying Isayas codemn Alshibaba’s kidnapping and terror plots in Kenya? Are you saying Isayas suport Kenyan incursion and officially codemn Alshabab’s Alqaida linked criminal gangs??
Are you denying alshababa’s headquarter is not in Asmara? Are you saying islamic propogandists are not broadcasting their statement from Asmara?? What a lie bullshit!
No one is willing to be decived by Eritrean anymore. You are a lier and foolish people interfering in others affair. Somalina problem might affect Kenya and Ethiopia, why you consider yourself as the power house in the horn where Ethiopia and Kenya big army with big economy situated?
THe UN is not a cartoon or animated object, even Russia and Chinaese are concious for your evil act in the horn.
Work hard Ethiopia and Kenya and vanish extrimists and Killers, including Isayas, build roads and electrification projects, use your ports and avoid poverity, While Eritrea is busy in a failed attempt to bloodshed the area, broadcast fabricated lies!!
