Terry slams United ‘headlocks’

HAZARD-SMALLINGLONDON, October 28- Chelsea captain John Terry has said both he and team-mate Branislav Ivanovic were “double headlocked at every corner” during the Premier League leaders’ dramatic 1-1 draw away to Manchester United on Sunday.

Manchester remains the only location where Chelsea have dropped league points so far this season after they also drew with champions Manchester City,

And the London club were denied an eighth league win of the campaign on Sunday when Robin van Persie’s injury-time goal cancelled out Didier Drogba’s header at Old Trafford.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho made little secret of his unhappiness with referee Phil Dowd’s performance and Blues skipper Terry was even more explicit on Monday.

The visitors were convinced they should have been awarded a first-half penalty when Ivanovic went down in a challenge from United defender Chris Smalling, with Terry also hitting the deck just behind him as he was challenged by Marcos Rojo as a set-piece came into the box.

Van Persie’s equaliser came after Ivanovic had been shown a red card for two bookable offences but Terry said on Instagram that Chelsea had been hard done by.

“It shows how well we are playing when you come away from Old Trafford disappointed with 1 point,” Terry said.

“Thanks to all the travelling fans for your great support. JT (John Tery) and IVA (Ivanovic) got double headlocked from every corner.”

Prior to van Persie’s goal, it looked as if Drogba would be the centre of attention having marked his first Chelsea start since returning to the club with a powerful leaping header that belied the Ivory Coast striker’s 36 years.

His performance was especially timely given fellow Chelsea strikers Diego Costa and Loic Remy missed the match through injury and Blues midfielder Nemanja Matic was delighted to have Drogba back on board.

“Didier played very well against United, he looked like a 20-year-old out there,” said Matic of Drogba, who also scored in the 6-0 Champions League victory over Maribor last week

“He was very important, kept every ball, was very strong. He was one of our most important players.

“Everybody saw that he played well. He is going to be important for us. He has already scored one in the Champions League and now another here.

“Like every player in the team, he is getting more confidence and we will see what happens in the future.”
