LONDON, England, June 18- Stefan de Vrij will reportedly join Manchester United after the World Cup following claims the Premier League club have agreed a fee with Feyenoord to sign the Dutch defender.
The Red Devils are currently in the market for a new centre-back, with club captain Nemanja Vidic having joined Inter Milan, and the 22-year-old De Vrij is seen as an ideal replacement.
The Netherlands starlet increased his stock at the weekend after starring in the 5-1 World Cup thrashing of defending champions Spain, where he bagged his first international goal while helping to limit La Furia Roja to only a handful of chances.
And, Louis van Gaal, who will relinquish the Dutch national team reins to take up the United job after the Brazil spectacular, is believed to have earmarked De Vrij as one of his main transfer targets.
And the Old Trafford board appear to be open to the transfer, with reports from Holland claiming the English outfit have already agreed a deal with the player’s club, and personal terms are now expected to be thrashed out when the World Cup comes to an end in July.
Meanwhile, Daley Blind is focusing his attention on helping the Netherlands claim their maiden World Cup.
The Ajax midfielder has been linked with a move to the Red Devils, who will be managed by Oranje coach Louis van Gaal after the showpiece in Brazil.
Blind featured in his country’s Group B opener against Spain last week, providing assists for their first two goals in a 5-1 win over the defending champions.
However, the 24-year-old son of former Dutch defender Danny Blind, who is Van Gaal’s assistant for the national team, has played down talk of following his father to United next month.
“All the attention is a very big thing now, but I try not to think about it too much and will keep my feet on the ground,” Blind is quoted as saying by Voetbal International.
“The link with Manchester United is easily made because [international team-mate] Robin [van Persie] is playing there and Van Gaal takes over next season.”
